December 24, 1994 Nor'easter

While it showed features common to tropical storms,
the late Nor’easter of ’94 was never classified as a
tropical cyclone.

This system intensified as it reached the warm waters of the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic Ocean, and exhibited eye formation typical of a tropical cyclone.  However, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) did not classify it as a tropical cyclone due to its uncertain nature. The system did make landfall along the Northeast, where a buoy recorded a wave height of 9.4 meters, a category 5 on the Dolan-Davis scale.

associated rain bands in New England.
